Fitness enthusiast and reviewer from Toronto

A Quick Overview

I am Alex Carter, based in Toronto, and I have spent the past few years chronicling my experiences at gyms across Canada.

This site exists because I got tired of choosing gyms based on ads and vague recommendations, only to discover the reality differed from expectations. I wanted specific, honest information about what these places were actually like. Since I could not find it, I decided to create it.

Over a dozen Gyms Visited
Three years Years Active
Over two hundred Classes Attended

How This Started

My workout routine started at a small club near 123 Fitness Ave in Toronto. It wasn't flawless, yet it was reachable, budget-friendly, and it helped me stay consistent.

When that place closed, I saw the fitness scene in Canada evolving rapidly. New clubs emerged, new ideas appeared, and marketing grew louder than the actual member experience.

I began testing various gyms and classes, jotting notes after each visit. Gradually those notes became this site, designed to help others make better-informed choices.

My Review Philosophy

Each review here is based on actual visits and time spent inside the facility. I highlight practical details that matter when selecting a membership.

When assessing a gym, I usually:

  • Invest ample time to grasp routines, peak times, and usage patterns
  • Visit on various days and at different times
  • Experiment with multiple training formats and coaches
  • Regularly use facilities to assess cleanliness and comfort
  • Speak with other members about consistency and discrepancies
  • Take notes right after each visit

I revise reviews when major changes occur: renovations, leadership shifts, price changes, or new facilities. Each piece shows its most recent update date so you can gauge how current it is.

What I Consider

My priorities may differ from yours, so here is what matters most to me when evaluating a gym:

Comfort and Privacy: Does the space feel thoughtfully designed for members, with respectful boundaries and a calm atmosphere?

Equipment Quality: Are machines well-maintained? Is there enough variety? Do things get fixed promptly?

Crowd Management: Can you actually train during your preferred time without constant waiting?

Clean Facilities: Locker rooms, showers, floors, and equipment surfaces. Cleanliness shows how seriously management takes the member experience.

Transparent Membership Practices: Clear pricing, clear rules, and no unpleasant surprises.

Beyond the Gym

Beyond training and writing, I live and work in Toronto. This project aims to simplify fitness decisions and make the right environment more transparent for people seeking it.
